Movie Review: Fifty Shades of Grey

Hey all! So, I finally got to watch “Fifty Shades of Grey” in the comfort of my own home. Yes, I’m done paying $20 to go to the movies. I actually lucked out and found a perfect quality version of the movie online!

Before I give my in-depth opinion of this film, let me just say that the books will ALWAYS be better. Books are always better than their movie version because books are more detailed. The only movie that I thought was just as great as the book was “Gone Girl”. Otherwise, the book always trumps the movie.

As far as casting, I think almost every character was casted well. I didn’t think Dakota Johnson was going to fit the role as great as she did. I’m glad I was wrong. Jamie Dornan was great! I think Rita Ora’s portrayal of Grey’s sister, Mia, was a bit off though. Something about it didn’t sit right with me. But overall, casting was pretty good.

The plot followed the book as best as it can in 2 hours. However, I was left wanting more when the movie finished – not in an “excited for part 2” of way, but in a “what the hell?” kind of way. I feel like some important details were left out. I understand you may not want the movie to be dreadfully long but sometimes you need an extra 30 minutes. “Gone Girl” was a long movie but I didn’t mind it, for the sake of the plot. The movie isn’t as graphic as I thought it would be. There is nudity during the sex scenes but you won’t see any penis. Also, the BDSM aspect of the plot was definitely less intense than in the book, but that’s expected.

Overall, I feel like the movie is a B+ in comparison to the book. The first book wasn’t my favorite though. So perhaps that’s why I don’t give the movie an A. The second book was my absolute favorite of the series. Therefore, I have high hopes for the second movie. Would I recommend this movie to anyone? If you’ve read the books, sure. You should feed your curiosity and compare and contrast for yourself. If you haven’t read the books, then no. It’s not the same unless you’ve read them.

Fifty Shades of Grey Wraps It Up

Yes! It’s true. That’s a wrap! This epic movie is completely done with production :D! Author of the Fifty Shades trilogy, E.L. James, announced it via social media this past Friday. Which means … a trailer should be released anytime now!

This movie has been highly anticipated since 2012. I’m sure so many people, most women haha, are ITCHING to find out how epic OR disappointing this movie is going to be. Most people hate the movie versions of novel series BUT who knows? I personally have high expectations for this movie only because the plot was amazing. However, I’m not a big fan of the entire cast. We all know I wanted a different actress to play Anastasia Steele but whatever. However, I am excited to see Rita Ora play Grey’s younger sister, Mia. I wonder if she’s skilled on-screen. I also think they made a great choice picking Marcia Gay Harden as Grey’s mother. As far as Christian Grey, I believe Jamie Dornan is handsome and has sex appeal but he’s no Ian Somerhalder, let’s admit it 🙂

Keep an eye out for the trailer!

Jamie Dornan is the NEW Christian Grey

Hallelujah! Praise the LORD!!! No more Charlie Hunnam! I’m sorry but he is not all that and he definitely doesn’t have the stuff to play the famous, irresistible, intelligent, dominant character of Christian Grey. Now, this new guy, Jamie Dornan is no Ian Somerhalder or Matt Bomer BUT he is pretty damn close. He is definitely way better than Charlie Hunnam .. sorry not sorry Jax fans! For those of you who don’t know who Jamie Dornan is .. he’s an Irish actor who was in  Marie Antoinette and has been in the TV series, Once Upon A Time.

Anyway, the point is he is sexy.  Once he signs his contract, he is in!!! I can’t explain how pleased I am that Charlie Hunnam is not playing Christian Grey. HOWEVER, I am still upset with the fact that Dakota Johnson is playing Anastasia Steele… like what the heck!? There are so many actresses out there who could fit the role so much better!!!! That definitely needs a casting change in my opinion.  I don’t think Johnson is ugly or anything but she just doesn’t say Ana to me! Like it’s all wrong. I am NOT feeling it whatsoever. It saddens me for real …

Charlie Hunnam Drops Out of “Fifty Shades of Grey”

Surprise, surprise … Charlie Hunnam won’t be playing the role of Christian Grey!!! I can’t say I’m disappointed 🙂 because the role just isn’t for him! He’s great for Sons of Anarchy though! Anyway, the reasoning behind his decision to drop out is because there was a scheduling conflict between “Sons of Anarchy” and the film. Clearly, he is going to pick his original show before the Fifty Shades film.  Due to his commitment to the FX show, Hunnam says that he can’t adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.

I wonder who will be playing the new role of Christian Grey… I hope it isn’t someone horrible for the role -__- E.L James needs to step it up & just pick Ian Somerhalder already 😉
