I’m more than happy to introduce another male MUA to this series! Everyone meet Jay Moctezuma! Born and raised in Santa Barbara, CA, Jay has been into makeup ever since he was growing up, watching his 6 sister apply their mascara and lipstick. What is your favorite high-end brand?

My favorite high end brand would have to be Giorgio Armani.

What are 3 makeup items you couldn’t possibly live without?

Three items I couldn’t possibly live without would have to be… my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow wiz, Kat Von D’s Immortal Lash Mascara & Mac Cosmetics’ Fix Plus!

What’s your favorite drugstore brand?

My favorite drugstore brand would have to be NYX Cosmetics. All their products that I have tried are great – none have failed me yet.

What type of beauty product do you buy the most of (mascaras, concealers, lipsticks etc)?

I tend to buy more lipsticks! I love a dark vampy lip & a pretty nude!

What is the most common makeup faux pas that you see?

I’d having to say, using a concealer that’s way lighter than your skin tone!

Do you have a “beauty budget” or do you spend freely?

I don’t have a “beauty budget”. I try not to go crazy, but if I see something that catches my eye or something that’s really popular or “in” then I like to try things for myself and see how well they actually work.

What’s your favorite lipstick?

I don’t have a favorite, but MAC Cosmetics Velvet Teddy would have to be my (favorite nude lipstick).

Describe your everyday makeup look.

Everyday makeup would be.. A little concealer, light foundation, natural eyebrows (not too defined), mascara, and some Chapstick! Nothing too dramatic. Although, I live for dramatic looks!

What’s your favorite mascara?

Kat Von D’s Immortal lash Mascara! I think it will always be my favorite LOL.

Is there any celebrity that you get your makeup inspiration from & why that celebrity?

The Kardashian/Jenner sisters! Their makeup gives me life!!! I love how beautiful they look, from their contour to eyeshadow, to lipstick. They are perfection!

Do you have some favorite beauty gurus? If so, who?

I have so many favorite beauty gurus it’s insane!

Girls: Definitely @Desimakeup, @Chrisspy & @jen_ny69 ! They’re so flawless and effortlessly beautiful.

Boys: I love me some @patrickstarrr & @mannymua733 !! They slay and I love everything that they do and stand for! Their makeup is always so beautiful. ❤️

If you could leave the house with only ONE makeup product, which would it be?

I haven’t came across any brand that I try to avoid completely. I like to try new things. I’m very curious LOL.

Do you usually “haul” or buy items here & there?

I would say I’m more of a here and there kinda person. One day I’ll buy a cute lipstick & the next I’ll see a cute pair of eyelashes & that’s kinda how it goes lol. I never know what I’m gonna buy. Haha

What’s your favorite skincare brand?

My favorite skin care brand is actually a drug store brand. I love St. Ives.

What is one beauty tool/brush that you’d recommend to anyone?

A beauty tool that I would recommend to anyone would have to be the beauty blender!! It applies foundation beautifully!

What is one beauty product that you’d recommend to ANYONE & why?

One beauty product that I would recommend would be.. Morphe brushes and eyeshadow palettes!! They are so inexpensive & they are pigmented! Such great products for such great prices. One of my favorite brands!

If you had to give up one makeup item for the rest of your life, which would it be?

If I had to give up one makeup item for the rest of my life… Oh my that’s a hard one… but probably mascara – only because falsies exist. Haha !!

What is your absolute pet peeve when it comes to other people’s makeup?

Absolute pet peeve would be… Spider eyelashes. Too much Mascara… Like I can’t. Lol.

Share a beauty tip/trick/hack.. whatever you’d like to call it. Lol

A beauty tip.. Hmm here’s one – For people who have pores & want flawless skin, I use both Maybelline’s Baby Skin – Insta Pore Eraser & Benefit’s POREfessional. Mix those two and apply on face. Then add your foundation and BAM.. It’s amazing! Lol.

Ashley was born & raised in the uptown area of the Bronx . She attended Cardinal Spellman High School & then went on to colleges such as Westchester Community College & Hudson Valley Community College . Throughout her years of school, she’s always had an interest in fashion & art . Her 8th grade teacher discovered that she was doing fashion sketches in class and taught her how to perfect them. When watching fashion shows, she would see looks and the edgy makeup the models would wear and from then she knew she wanted to learn more about it . She’s been into makeup since she was about 14 – trying to master how to put on eyeliner & different types of lip gloss .

My favorite high end brands would have to be Yves Saint Laurent, Make Up For Ever & Givenchy

What are 3 makeup items you couldn’t possibly live without?

Three makeup items I couldn’t live without would be my Milani lip gloss in Bare Secret, my Givenchy liquid liner, and my Anastasia brow wiz.

What’s your favorite drugstore brand?

My fave drugstore brands are Milani and Black Opal. I can’t choose one.

What type of beauty product do you buy the most of (mascaras, concealers, lipsticks etc)?

The most beauty products I buy the most of would be mascaras and lipsticks – different wands & formulas make it so hard to choose a favorite & I love different finishes of lipsticks.

What is the most common makeup faux pas that you see?

I would have to say highlighting & contouring – whether the right colors aren’t being used or it’s just not being done correctly .

Do you have a “beauty budget” or do you spend freely?

LOL if I tell you I have a budget that’s a lie. I try not to spend so much but it’s hard because there’s always a new release or something limited edition, and I love trying new things to create new looks .

What’s your favorite lipstick?

My favorite lipstick is M.A.C ‘s Ruby Woo.

Describe your everyday makeup look.

My everyday look is Chanel’s Perfections Lumiere Foundation in 136 Ambre with my Anastasia concealer in 6.0. I set my foundation with Diorskin Nude Loose Powder in 070 and contour with Illamasqua’s darkest foundation in #18. I use Mac’s Improper Copper for highlight , Benefit’s They’re Real! mascara, and my Milani lip gloss in Bare Secret & that’s my face everyday!

What’s your favorite mascara?

Gosh I have 3-4 fave mascaras… 1. Benefit’s They’re Real! 2.Diorshow 3.Lancome’s Hypnose Drama 4 Too Faced Better Than Sex

Is there any celebrity that you get your makeup inspiration from & why that celebrity?

I would have to say Kelly Rowland and Tika Sumpter. Both have such great skin & amazing features. They always look so flawless & simplistic but beautiful. I always try to emulate that every time I do my makeup.

If you could leave the house with only ONE makeup product, which would it be?

My Milani Bare Secret lip gloss. It’s amazing for 5 bucks !

Are there any brands that you try to avoid?

No, I don’t avoid any brand. I try to use all brands. No brand is horrible – a true artist knows how to use any product he/she is given .

Do you usually “haul” or buy items here & there?

I do a little of both.

What’s your favorite skincare brand?

My favorite skincare brand is Algenist . It’s a bit pricey but the results are amazing!

What is one beauty tool/brush that you’d recommend to anyone?

The beauty blender! You can pretty much use it for everything – it’s amazing!

One beauty product I’d recommend to anyone would be Boscia’s BB creams. They’re jam packed with skincare, so even if you’re wearing makeup your skin will remain healthy.

If you had to give up one makeup item for the rest of your life, which would it be?

Ummmmm , if I had to give up one product it would be foundation . I can get the same results with a good concealer.

What is your absolute pet peeve when it comes to other people’s makeup?

My absolute pet peeve when it comes to other people’s makeup is the client who always tries to open their eyes when applying shadow or anything to their face.

My fave beauty trick is to keep eyes open when creating a winged liner that way you making the best line for your eye shape.
